Woman stabbed her baby daughter in the chest multiple times before taking a picture of her holding her lifeless body and sending it to her mother

A heart-wrenching incident has underscored the intricate challenges of maternal mental health, with a mother now facing legal repercussions for a tragic act that claimed the life of her 3-month-old daughter. Preliminary investigations into this December tragedy have unveiled a scene of devastation, exposing a mother grappling with acute psychological distress. As more details emerge, questions are raised about the adequacy of mental health support systems, particularly for new mothers.

A 32-year-old mother has been formally charged in connection with the death of her 3-month-old daughter, a heart-wrenching event that occurred late last year. Authorities have announced that Krista B. has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of murder and the death of a child through child abuse by a parent or guardian.

Previous court records have revealed a deeply troubling situation at Krista’s apartment. According to reports, on December 30, 2022, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call at the apartment complex. A concerned neighbor reported a grave incident at Krista’s residence, indicating the presence of a deceased child and a significant amount of blood.

Upon arrival, the initial officers on the scene discovered Krista holding her unresponsive child. A blood-stained knife was found nearby and secured as evidence. Both the mother and child were swiftly transported to the hospital. Tragically, the child was pronounced dead at approximately 8:15 a.m. An autopsy later revealed that the baby had sustained multiple stab wounds that pierced the heart and lungs, leading to the determination that the cause of death was homicide.

Krista, who had self-inflicted stab wounds on her head, chest, and wrists, was subsequently transferred to another hospital for specialized medical care. Evidence collected from the apartment included the child’s clothing, which showed multiple holes in the chest area, seemingly inflicted by the butcher knife discovered at the scene.

Disturbing details further emerged when investigators interviewed Krista’s mother. She recounted that on the morning of the stabbing, her daughter had sent her a photograph showing herself covered in blood while holding her seemingly lifeless daughter.

A nurse practitioner who attended to Krista during her hospitalization informed investigators that when she inquired about what had transpired to her and her child, Krista admitted to “stabbing her baby, then herself.” Additionally, Krista allegedly acknowledged attempting to take her and her baby’s life intentionally when asked if she had been trying to do so.

Lastly, Krista’s boyfriend, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that she had been grappling with postpartum psychosis and had not received the necessary assistance before the tragic incident unfolded.
