Video footage of a pregnant passenger, Que Maria Scott, attacking a Spirit Airlines employee, Jasmine Rhoden, at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia went viral on social media.
The incident happened on April 30, after Scott was denied boarding for allegedly threatening a gate agent. Fellow passengers intervened and pulled Scott off Rhoden after a brief struggle. Scott, who
was arrested for simple assault and disorderly conduct, claimed that she was pregnant, although she allegedly smelled of alcohol. She was transported to the Clayton County Jail in Jonesboro, according to the Daily Mail.
The Atlanta Police Department’s witness statement revealed that Scott threatened a gate agent, prompting Rhoden to deny her boarding to the flight. Scott then attacked Rhoden by swinging her arms and hitting her in the face.
Rhoden closed the gate, and Scott fell on top of her while pulling her hair, causing them to fall to the ground. Body cam footage provided by Atlanta Police Department showed Rhoden saying ‘She needs to be arrested,’ while Scott shouted ‘I’m pregnant, I’m pregnant’ as she was handcuffed by officers. Scott was released from Clayton County Jail on a $1,500 bond.
Spirit Airlines has not yet commented on the incident. This is not the first violent incident to have happened at an airport gate of the airline. In February, Spirit Airlines agents were caught on video fighting with unruly passengers over extra fees at Philadelphia International Airport.
