New York City Woman Found Dead After Alleged Dispute with Tenant

In a tragic turn of events, Zoraida Leo, a 55-year-old woman residing in New York City, was found dead in her Queens apartment after what authorities believe was a confrontation with her 19-year-old tenant, Davi Vidal. The incident unfolded on Tuesday evening, prompting a call to the New York City Police Department around 5:15 p.m. ET, reporting the distressing situation at 96th Street near 32nd Avenue in East Elmhurst.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered Leo unconscious and unresponsive, her face bearing visible scratches. Despite the swift response of emergency medical services, they were unable to revive her, pronouncing her deceased at the scene.

A subsequent investigation by the police identified Davi Vidal, who lived on the second floor above Leo, as the suspect in this disturbing case. Vidal, allegedly facing issues with rent payments, is accused of engaging in a dispute with Leo, culminating tragically in her death. The suspect has since been charged with murder.

The gravity of the situation was further underscored during Vidal’s arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on Thursday, where he was held without bail. The New York Daily News reported on the court proceedings, shedding light on the unfolding legal ramifications.

The underlying financial strain between Vidal and Leo appears to have played a pivotal role in escalating tensions within their shared living space. Vidal’s failure to pay rent reportedly fueled the confrontation that ultimately led to this devastating outcome.

Despite attempts to gather additional information, representatives for the Queens District Attorney’s Office and the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner have yet to respond to inquiries, leaving many unanswered questions surrounding this heart-wrenching incident. The community is left grappling with the shock and grief of the loss of Zoraida Leo, as law enforcement continues its thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely death.
