A fatal crash in Sacramento’s Pocket neighborhood is believed to be a result of DUI and speeding, leading to the death of a woman and injuries to her two children. Alethea Lee, 26, is facing charges related to driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury, with additional charges of gross vehicular manslaughter planned by the police.
The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. on Friday along Pocket Road near Greenhaven Drive, where a driver lost control and struck three pedestrians—a woman and her two children. The woman was transported to the hospital and succumbed to her injuries on Sunday. The identities of the victims have not been released by officials.
The two children also involved in the crash were hospitalized but survived. It was later revealed that the woman was the mother of the two kids, who attend the Bergamo Montessori School. The school expressed deep sadness over the incident and told KCRA.
Alethea Lee, the driver, was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital before being booked into the Sacramento County Jail. With a bail set at $450,000, Lee appeared in court on Tuesday. During the hearing, she did not enter a plea, and her defense is requesting her release from jail. The judge will decide on this request during Lee’s next court appearance on December 7.
Authorities are seeking information about the crash and encourage anyone with details to contact dispatchers at 916-808-5471 or Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
