Nicole and Kevin had long believed that having children would never be possible for them due to Nicole’s autoimmune disease, which she was diagnosed with at the age of 16. Despite managing the disease for over a decade, Nicole faced challenging episodes and occasional hospitalizations. However, after marrying Kevin, she discovered that her condition, known as TTP, would pose additional complications for pregnancy.
The medication required to treat TTP could harm the unborn child, but stopping the treatment would put Nicole’s health at risk. Although they learned that some women with TTP can have successful pregnancies, they also discovered that many children born under such circumstances face health issues or fail to reach full term.
Initially considering adoption, the couple soon realized that the legal expenses involved were beyond their means. They then explored options like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and surrogacy, but they had concerns about the potential impact of Nicole’s condition on these methods.
Given the prohibitive costs of adoption and the fact that paid surrogacy was illegal in their state, Nicole turned to the idea of finding a gestational carrier. She decided to freeze her eggs without knowing who would eventually fulfill this role, taking this precautionary step while hoping for the best.
Fortunately, Nicole and Kevin had known Lianna and her husband Shawn for two decades. Lianna and Shawn had always dreamed of having a large family and had already welcomed five children into their lives, with Lianna being 37 and Shawn being 40.
Six months after the birth of their fifth child, Lianna surprised Kevin and Nicole during dinner by making an announcement that would change everything.
Lianna expressed her desire to have one or two more children, not for herself, but for Kevin and Nicole. She offered to be their surrogate. Overwhelmed with emotions, Kevin and Nicole couldn’t help but cry at this selfless and extraordinary gesture.
Lianna underwent medical and mental evaluations, successfully passing all tests. The embryos were then implanted, and Kevin and Nicole pledged to support Lianna throughout the entire journey.
Finally, the day arrived when Lianna gave birth to not just one, but two healthy babies, Dominic and Luciana. The lifelong dream of Kevin and Nicole had become a reality, all thanks to the incredible selflessness of their best friends. They were determined to honor this act of kindness for the rest of their lives.
