A widow is pleading with others to take heed of the tragic tale of her late wife, who died after switching to vaping to help kick her smoking habit. Kristen Hensley’s wife, Amanda Lee Hall, was the first woman she had ever dated. At first, Kristen was “terrified,” but as their romance grew, the two decided to get married in 2014.
When they first met, Amanda was a smoker who had started the habit when she was just 14 years old. For over 22 years, Amanda smoked often, but the year before she and Kristen were married, she made the decision to stop. As her dad became unwell, she made the decision to start vaping because she thought it would be a healthier alternative.
E-cigarettes are thought to be around 95% safer than smoking, according to estimates as their use has increased. It’s crucial to keep in mind that these are currently only estimates. After making the move, Amanda didn’t suffer any problems right away, but over the course of the following five years, she began to have problems, such as regular vomiting, weight loss, and cold-like symptoms.
She was transported to the hospital in September 2019 and given a course of medication after being identified as having bronchitis. Four days later, doctors verified that her lungs were closing. Although the exact reason for Amanda’s problems is unknown, physicians think the damage to her lungs may have been caused by vaping.
Kristen acknowledged that she was “very worried” about the uncertainties surrounding her health, but claimed that Amanda was “bravely behaving like it was just a cold.” I was incorrect, she said, “totally believing that her lungs would recover from the impairment caused by vaping and she would be healthy again.
A ventilator was used to keep Amanda alive after she was detained in the hospital and given high-flow oxygen treatments. She eventually had a medically induced coma and was later placed on life support. After receiving a double pneumonia diagnosis in February 2020, Amanda, unfortunately, lost away at the end of that year.
As a result of the event, Kristen claimed that she has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, stating: “It’s been incredibly challenging because I either wake up weeping or can’t sleep properly because of dreams. “I felt at ease, Amanda made me giggle, and she is just too cute.
Although life is different without her, my love for Amanda endures since she was everything to me and so much more. In an effort to warn others, Kristen has published her wife’s tale in the hopes that it would ‘assist those who are trying to stop this fatal habit and perhaps escape the same sad catastrophe we’ve all endured.
When Amanda was in the hospital in 2019, Kristen created a GoFundMe page to assist pay the increasing medical expenditures. The campaign is still open, and donations can be made here.
