A Wichita man sneaks into the hospital and se*xually assaults three patients

A disturbing incident unfolded in Wichita, Kansas, as a man allegedly entered a hospital and se*xually assaulted three vulnerable female patients before being confronted and apprehended by police.

According to Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo, 28-year-old Miguel Rodela managed to gain unauthorized access to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital on Thursday. Reports indicate that Rodela is accused of raping three female patients who were in a physically powerless state.

During his unlawful entry, Rodela engaged in a physical altercation with security guards, assaulting two of them before law enforcement could arrive at the scene. Police responded to a distress call labeled as an “officer in trouble” around 2 a.m., referring to the security guards involved in the confrontation.

Rebolledo stated that Rodela has no affiliation with the hospital as either a patient or an employee. Authorities are currently investigating how he managed to bypass security measures and gain entry into the facility. It remains unclear whether all the victims were located on the same floor or distributed across multiple floors.

Out of respect for the privacy and well-being of the victims, specific details regarding their ages and medical conditions have not been disclosed. Following his arrest, Rodela was taken into custody and booked at the Sedgwick County Jail. He faces charges of three counts of rape, characterized as “se*xual intercourse with a physically powerless victim.” He is currently being held without bond.

Local news outlet KAKE-TV reported that Rodela had a prior criminal record, having been convicted of aggravated assault and theft in 2019. Presently, he was reportedly participating in a community corrections program under the supervision of the Kansas Department of Corrections.

In a separate development, union nurses at the Wichita hospital recently voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike, protesting the company for prioritizing profits over patient well-being. Workplace violence was among the concerns highlighted by the nurses, further underscoring the importance of ensuring a safe environment within healthcare facilities.
