President Joe Biden’s approval ratings are now as low as former President Donald Trump’s were at this point in his presidency.
Despite this, reports NBC News, it would be a mistake to think that disappointed voters who backed Biden in 2020 are thinking about switching allegiances to Trump next year.
A recent NBC poll revealed that, in a hypothetical Biden-Trump rematch, the current president leads the former by 11 points among voters who somewhat disapproved of his performance.
In interviews with some of these voters, NBC highlighted just how intractable their negative feelings about Trump are, even as they profess no love for Biden.
“Donald Trump is nuts,” said one white female voter from Pennsylvania.
“Donald Trump lacks a moral compass,” said a Black man from New Mexico. “Joe Biden somewhat has a moral compass. That was it.”
And a Hispanic woman from Florida told NBC News that she didn’t relish the thought of voting for Biden again but would if Trump were the alternative.
“I would rather vote for a dead shark than the devil himself, I suppose,” she explained to the network.
