Former President Donald Trump recently took the witness stand to defend himself against accusations of inflating the value of his assets to secure more favorable loans from banks and financial institutions.

The heart of the dispute revolved around Trump’s accounting practices, with Judge Engoron contemplating substantial fines and penalties that could potentially impact Trump’s real estate empire, according to Reuters.
Trump’s responses in court seemed to aggravate Judge Engoron, who sternly warned Trump’s attorney, Kise, to maintain control and stressed that the courtroom was not a political rally.
Initially, Trump provided his testimony in a subdued manner for about two hours. However, as time passed, he grew increasingly agitated, directing accusations at Judge Engoron and New York Attorney General Letitia James, suggesting that they were conspiring against him. He referred to James as a “political hack” using the case to further her political aspirations and claimed that Judge Engoron falsely labeled him a fraud.
Trump’s testimony concluded in the mid-afternoon, and Reuters reported that his daughter, Ivanka, was slated to testify the following day, despite not being a defendant in the case. Meanwhile, his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, had already provided their testimonies.
The former president decried the case as a “disgrace,” asserting that many people were leaving New York due to such legal actions, which he viewed as election interference aimed at keeping him embroiled in court proceedings.
During the trial, Alina Habba, one of Trump’s attorneys, raised objections to the prosecutor’s comments, which prompted a stern response from Judge Engoron. The judge clarified that the court’s purpose was to hear Trump’s responses, not his statements.
Following the courtroom session, Trump spoke to reporters and expressed confidence that his testimony had gone well. He voiced his belief that the case should never have been brought, placing blame on the court for the alleged fraud, particularly in the valuation of his assets, including Mar-a-Lago, which he claimed was severely undervalued.
Habba, when speaking to reporters, criticized Judge Engoron, characterizing him as unhinged and expressing her intolerance for such behavior.
