Trump’s remarks were prompted by claims made by an IRS whistleblower, suggesting that a 2017 WhatsApp message from Hunter to a business associate mentioned his father, President Joe Biden, pressuring for a commitment. In the message, Hunter allegedly expressed a desire to resolve the matter urgently while in the presence of his father.
Trump sarcastically commented on Hunter’s forceful tone, saying, “I didn’t know he was that tough!” He then speculated about a possible connection between these revelations and President Biden’s seemingly restrained reaction to reports of China’s alleged plans for a spy base in Cuba.
Referring to a monetary transaction, Trump claimed that the Bidens received $5.1 million from China within ten days, insinuating that this might explain President Biden’s lack of concern regarding China’s actions in Cuba.
According to Fox News, Trump portrayed President Biden as a “compromised president” and suggested that his family’s business dealings could influence his policies.
In response, an unnamed administration official downplayed the significance of the reported secret agreement between China and Cuba for a spy base. The official stated that the issue was an ongoing concern predating the current administration and that the U.S. government had been aware of China’s efforts to expand its intelligence infrastructure in Cuba since January 2021.
The official cited intelligence records documenting China’s activities in Cuba dating back to 2019, including the upgrading of intelligence collection facilities.
Hunter Biden’s attorney promptly dismissed the claims made by the IRS whistleblower, calling them biased, politically motivated, and potentially illegal. The attorney emphasized the challenges Hunter faced during his addiction struggles and clarified that any actions or statements made by Hunter were his own and unrelated to his family.
