Cassidy Hutchinson, a former senior advisor to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, captured global attention when she testified before the House Select Committee investigating the events of January 6th.
In her inaugural television interview on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Hutchinson delved into her concerns regarding her safety after stepping forward and sharing her choice to temporarily relocate to the Southern United States.
During this comprehensive interview, Hutchinson covered a wide range of topics, including her testimony before the committee, the disparities between her televised statements and previous depositions, her newly published book titled “Enough” (released by CBS’ affiliate company Simon & Schuster), and the tumultuous moments leading up to her appearance before the House Select Committee.
Hutchinson disclosed that there was a moment when she had almost opted not to testify, describing a critical juncture when she felt overwhelmed and contemplated walking away. It was her attorney who urged her to press on, ultimately leading to her appearance before the committee.
“I ALMOST RAN OUT OF – THERE’S A LITTLE HOLD ROOM OUTSIDE THE COMMITTEE ROOM THAT WE WERE ABOUT TO WALK IN, AND I ALMOST DARTED,” HUTCHINSON SAID.
“I HEARD THE DOOR CLICK OPEN AND I TURNED AROUND AND I LOOKED AT MY ATTORNEY AND SAID, ‘I CAN’T DO THIS.’ AND I STARTED TO WALK, AND HE GENTLY PUSHED MY SHOULDERS. AND HE SAID, ‘YOU CAN DO THIS.’ AND THEN WE WALKED OUT.
I WOULD … LIKE TO MAKE CLEAR. I WOULD NOT BACK THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,” HUTCHINSON TOLD SMITH. “HE IS DANGEROUS FOR THE COUNTRY. HE IS WILLING AND HAS SHOWED, TIME AND TIME AGAIN, WILLINGNESS TO PROLIFERATE LIES TO VULNERABLE AMERICAN PEOPLE SO HE COULD STAY IN POWER. … TO ME, THAT IS THE MOST UN-AMERICAN THING THAT YOU CAN DO.”
Despite maintaining her Republican affiliation, Hutchinson made it unequivocal that she would not endorse former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. She voiced her apprehensions about Trump’s actions, particularly his willingness to perpetuate falsehoods to retain his grip on power, which she perceived as a grave threat to the nation.
In her interview, Hutchinson shed light on her experiences as a pivotal witness in the January 6th investigation and offered her perspective on the political landscape, emphasizing her firm belief that Trump’s actions posed a significant peril to the United States.
