Tarrant County man sentenced to life in prison for beating his 10-week-old son to death

Joseph Welborn, a man responsible for the fatal beating of his 10-week-old son, has been sentenced to life in Tarrant County by a jury.

The 31-year-old Welborn entered a guilty plea for the charge of Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury. The tragic incident occurred on December 21, 2018, when Welborn was alone with his son, Christian.

A subsequent autopsy confirmed that Christian had suffered two complex skull fractures. The investigation of this heartbreaking case was led by Detective Michael Weber of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, who possesses extensive expertise in crimes involving children.

Throughout his career, Detective Weber has been involved in over 400 such cases, making him a seasoned professional in this area. “Detective Weber is a valued member of the TCSO team today, but when this case initially came to his attention, he was newly assigned to the Sheriff’s Office,” stated the sheriff’s office.

“However, his experience in investigating crimes against children was well-established. He had dedicated several years to these cases while working with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office and the Crimes Against Children Unit of the Arlington Police Department.”
