Authorities in Ohio responded to a distressing incident on May 20 when two deceased newborn babies were discovered at a residence in Cleveland, leading to the arrest of a teenager, according to a police news release.
Upon receiving a report about the presence of two dead infants in a garbage bin at the home, police promptly dispatched officers to the scene. The bodies of the newborns were confirmed to be present, prompting the arrival of homicide detectives to initiate an investigation.
Preliminary information suggests that the mother of the infants, a 16-year-old female, had given birth to the babies several days prior to the incident. The teenage mother was located and subsequently taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The initial caller, who happened to be the mother of the 16-year-old, was unaware of her daughter’s pregnancy, as per police reports. It was allegedly the daughter who informed her mother that she had disposed of the children in the trash.
Neighbors stated that they had heard the cries of newborn twins a few days earlier but were unaware of any issues or wrongdoing, according to WKYC news.
The 16-year-old mother has been arrested, and authorities are treating the incident as a homicide as the investigation continues.
