Mother apologizes for killing her minor daughter after lengthy abuse, “intentional suffocation,” and setting the body on fire in an effort to get away with it; sentenced

Recently, court documents made public revealed that 31-year-old Kristie has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for an extended period of abuse and mistreatment that tragically led to the death of her daughter, the 3-year-old angel known as Emma.

During the legal proceedings, it emerged that Kristie had further attempted to conceal her actions by setting fire to the remains of her daughter. Her husband, Brandon, had previously received a prison sentence for his role in the events.

The heartbreaking tale of young Emma began to unravel in 2019 when local authorities were summoned to a softball field following a report of human remains being discovered.

In an official statement, the police department noted that identifying the remains was initially impossible due to the extensive burning of the body.

Almost a year later, it was confirmed that these remains belonged to little Emma. The investigation into the incident commenced immediately following the arrest of Emma’s parents.

According to investigators, Emma had been subjected to continuous mistreatment at the hands of her parents, particularly Kristie. The child endured the forced carrying of heavy weights, suffered abuse, was deprived of food, endured starvation, and experienced “intentional suffocation.”

Her mother reportedly struck her repeatedly with objects like a spatula and purse. Despite the evident need for medical attention for Emma and her two siblings residing in the same household, none was provided. Emma’s siblings also faced excessive forced exercise and inappropriate physical discipline.

Tragically, Emma’s mother beat her to death and then chose to set the child’s body on fire in an attempt to eliminate any potential evidence against her. In April 2021, both Kristie and Brandon initially faced charges of child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Kristie was later charged with murder one month after the initial charges.

In May, she pleaded guilty to murder by abuse or neglect, along with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of abuse of a corpse. In addition to her 30-year prison term, Kristie was placed on probation for her mistreatment of her other children.

At her sentencing hearing, Kristie offered an apology, expressing remorse for “all the hurt that I inflicted and the pain that I caused.” She added, “I knew everything was wrong, and I was so messed up because of everything I did. I thought I could get away with it, to be honest.”

Brandon received a prison sentence of four years and one month after pleading guilty to one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child and three misdemeanor counts of the same charge.
