3 Florida Men Arrested in Connection With the Death of a Black Man They Allegedly Chased in Jacksonville

Three white men were arrested in Jacksonville, Florida in connection with the shooting death of a 39-year-old Black man last week. The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

Ryan Nichols, 19, Daniel DeGuardia, 18, and Holden Dodson, 21, were taken into custody after the man was discovered dead behind a dumpster on Ashley Street on May 2.

Surveillance footage showed the trio chasing the victim on foot and in a car before he was fatally shot. The police later discovered several 9mm shell casings, a loaded extended magazine, and evidence of a vehicle collision with the dumpster at the crime scene.

They also found that the garbage dumpster had been hit by a vehicle. Arrest warrants were issued after Nichols and Dodson were identified, and they were subsequently charged with second-degree murder and being accessories after the fact, respectively.

DeGuardia was charged with the same, along with the possibility of being charged with a hate crime. Nichols was also charged with altering physical evidence records. The investigation is ongoing, and the defendant’s next court appearance is on May 25.
