Married Couple Arrested Eight Years Later for Brutal Halloween Killing of Four Family Members

A married couple has been arrested eight years after the gruesome killing of four family members on Halloween in 2015. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office revealed on Friday, Dec. 15, that Amy Vilardi and her husband, Rosmore “Ross” Vilardi, were apprehended at their Columbia, South Carolina home. They face four counts of murder each.

The incident unfolded on Nov. 2, 2015, when Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting report at a residence on Refuge Drive. Upon a sweep of the home, they discovered the lifeless bodies of 80-year-old Barbara Scott, 60-year-old Cathy Scott, 59-year-old Michael Scott, and 82-year-old Violet Taylor. All four victims resided in the same house where the tragic events occurred, and they had been killed on Oct. 31.

During a press conference on Friday, Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride revealed that Amy Vilardi, the daughter of Michael and Cathy Scott and the granddaughter of Violet Taylor, made the initial 911 call. In an interview with WSPA-TV after the killings, Amy Vilardi described the victims as “wonderful people” who “just didn’t deserve this.”

Sheriff McBride characterized the murders as “senseless and brutal,” noting that detectives considered it “one of the worst scenes they’ve ever seen.” The crime scene was described as gruesome, gory, and profoundly devastating.

The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office will be handling the prosecution of the case.
