Man Shoots Neighbor Who Was Trimming Trees Because He Recklessly Thought He Was On His Property

According to an ABC News report on Monday, September 18, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred in DeLeon Springs, Florida after a dispute over tree trimming.

42-year-old Brian Ford was trimming trees on the property line between his home and that of his 78-year-old neighbor, Edward Druzolowski.

Druzolowski confronted Ford about being on his property and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t leave.

When Ford didn’t leave, Druzolowski shot and killed him.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office received two 911 calls about the shooting around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

In Druzolowski’s call, he admitted to threatening Ford with a gun and shooting him when he kept approaching after the gun just clicked the first time when Druzolowski pulled the trigger.

Druzolowski said he was scared because of Ford’s criminal history.

However, Druzolowski’s wife said Ford did not have anything in his hands and did not threaten her husband.

The other 911 call came from Ford’s distraught mother, who screamed that her neighbor had shot her son while he was doing yard work for her.

Deputies attempted life-saving measures but Ford died at the scene. Detectives found probable cause to arrest Druzolowski for second-degree murder.

Ford’s sister commented on the sheriff’s Facebook page that the shooting happened right in front of Ford’s 8-year-old son.

She said Druzolowski’s wife stood by and did nothing.

The sister lamented that her brother was killed over something as minor as tree trimming.

She said Druzolowski took her only living brother from her and left Ford’s children without their father.

This appears to be a case of a dispute between neighbors that escalated to unnecessary violence and tragedy.

While Druzolowski may have felt threatened, shooting an unarmed man, especially in front of his child, is an egregious overreaction.

Ford’s family is left mourning his unnecessary death over something as trivial as tree branches crossing a property line.

Had the men talked calmly, or had a mediator step in, Ford likely would still be alive.

Unfortunately, Druzolowski chose to immediately threaten deadly force.

Now, he will face serious charges, a family will be left broken, and a community shaken by such a senseless act.

Moving forward, the justice system will run its course. But the broader lesson is that violence should always be an absolute last resort when conflicts arise.

Taking a human life is never justified over minor disputes or trespassing.

This heartbreaking case illustrates the potential consequences of resorting to threats and force too readily.

If nothing else, may it serve as a sobering reminder to think carefully before reaching for a weapon in anger.
