The individual infamously known as the “Malibu Sniper” has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the fatal shooting of a father who was camping with his young daughters in California in 2018.
Following a jury’s conviction in May, 46-year-old Anthony Rauda has been handed a prison term of 119 years by a judge for the murder of 35-year-old Tristan Beaudette. The charges against Rauda included second-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, and five counts of second-degree commercial burglary.
According to KCAL-TV, While two of the attempted murder charges were related to the incident near Beaudette’s daughters, they were fortunately unharmed by the gunfire.
However, Rauda was acquitted of other attempted murder charges connected to additional shootings that occurred in the vicinity. These incidents collectively earned him the moniker of the “Malibu Sniper.”
On June 22, 2018, Beaudette was tragically shot at Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas. He had taken his daughters camping to provide his wife with space for studying, as per reports from the Los Angeles Times.
During the investigation into Beaudette’s murder, authorities uncovered several other shootings that took place at or near Malibu Creek State Park between 2016 and 2017. This series of events prompted prosecutors to assert that Rauda had terrorized the area.
The first incident occurred in November 2016 when Rauda allegedly wounded a man sleeping in a hammock in the Malibu State Park area. Approximately one week later, he reportedly fired into the sleeping area of a vehicle. Rauda was also accused of shooting into vehicles on three separate occasions in 2017, although no injuries were reported from those incidents.
Law enforcement revealed that Rauda was on probation at the time of his arrest for the Beaudette shooting. He had previously been convicted of possessing explosives and a loaded firearm, amplifying concerns about his criminal history.
The sentencing of Rauda marks a significant step towards justice for the victims and their families affected by these senseless acts of violence.
