Lucy Letby Struck-Off Nursing Registry Following Infant Murder Conviction, Maintains Innocence Amid Disturbing Details

Months after being convicted of murdering seven infants in a British hospital, Lucy Letby has been officially deregistered from the nursing registry, as reported by various sources, the BBCThe Guardian, and Manchester Evening News report.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council, in response to Letby’s August conviction for murdering seven infants and attempting to murder six others, deemed her unfit to practice, leading to her removal from the nursing registry and a subsequent life sentence.

Despite maintaining her innocence, Letby, who worked in the neonatal ward of the Countess of Chester Hospital, participated in a pre-hearing “tick-box exercise,” where she acknowledged the convictions but asserted, “I do not accept that I am guilty of any of the allegations.”

According to the BBC, Letby, absent from the hearing, expressed her innocence regarding all convictions. In 2016, she was removed from the neonatal ward after suspicions arose due to a series of unexplained infant deaths and near-deaths.

Disturbing details emerged during her 10-month trial, including allegations that she intentionally killed two of three triplets within 24 hours and a note found with the message, “I killed them on purpose.”

The jury remained undecided on attempted murder charges related to four additional infants. Ahead of Letby’s sentencing, grieving parents voiced their sentiments. The mother of Child D, one of the victims, declared, “I cannot forgive you, The Guardian reported.

There is no forgiving. Not now, not ever.” Another mother, with twin boys identified as Child E and F, labeled Letby a “coward” for not attending the sentencing, expressing that their world was shattered by the encounter with “evil disguised as a caring nurse.”

A retrial for an attempted murder charge is scheduled for June 2024.
