Trump Opts Against Participating in GOP Debate: A Strategic Move? Former US President Donald Trump is capitalizing on his substantial lead in the polls as he charts his course toward a potential 2024 election bid.

Trump has chosen to abstain from the debate scheduled for Wednesday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His rationale is that affording his Republican competitors a platform to target him is unnecessary, given his commanding position in nationwide polls.

Based on a recent CBS poll, Trump has garnered an impressive 62 percent of support from Republican voters. This puts his nearest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, at a distant 16 percent.

Other contenders in the Republican primary race are encountering difficulties in gaining traction, with most receiving less than 10 percent backing in the same survey.

Nevertheless, an Emerson College poll over the weekend indicated that DeSantis and biotechnology entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy were tied at 10 percent each.

Via his Truth Social social media platform, Trump conveyed, “The public knows who I am & what a successful presidency I had. I will therefore not be doing the debates.” Presently, there has been no official response from the Trump campaign about whether the former president intends to participate in any forthcoming Republican debates.

A Strategic Gesture? In an upcoming interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, set for online release on Wednesday, Trump delves into his decision. The exact platform for the interview’s unveiling is yet to be revealed.

Since June 2023, Carlson has been hosting his own show, “Tucker,” on Twitter and has actively engaged on the social network.

Some sources, such as The Guardian, have speculated that Trump’s choice to forego the debate in favor of an interview with Carlson could be a calculated effort to put Fox News at a disadvantage, particularly in light of the network’s recent criticisms of his campaign.

There are also reports circulating that Trump is exploring funding avenues for the launch of a new media company.
