Daisy Link is in the process of being tried for accused second-degree murder. According to a statement provided to PEOPLE by Daisy Link’s attorney Marlene Montaner, an investigation has been launched after a Florida woman who has been incarcerated since 2022 informed her family that she is pregnant.
According to CBS News Miami, Local 10 News, and NBC News, Link’s family is seeking clarification from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County over the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy.
According to the sites, the 28-year old has been detained at the facility for more than a year while he awaits trial for suspect second-degree murder.
Part of the jail’s statement read, “The care, safety, and rehabilitation of all those in our custody remains our top priority.”
Link’s family said to Local 10 News that they think she was molested. Officials from the penitentiary made a statement saying, “The circumstances surrounding the pregnancy are currently under active investigation.” In the statement, officials added, “At this time, there is no evidence of sexual battery against our inmate.”
Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center provided NBC News with a statement regarding Link’s pregnancy care: “Pregnant inmates receive timely and appropriate prenatal care; specialized obstetrics services when indicated by the CHS, and time for postpartum recovery.”
Concerns have been raised by Link’s relatives regarding her safety.
