Illinois Teen Brissa Romero Missing for Over a Week – Intensive Search Continues with Submerged Car Discovery

Authorities in Illinois are intensifying their search for 17-year-old Brissa Romero, who went missing on December 4. Originally believed to be en route to a holiday work party at a bowling alley in Vernon Hills, Romero was last seen on surveillance video visiting a family member in Des Plaines, Ill, NBC Chicago report.

Despite her purported destination, no one at the party reported seeing Romero. Following a review of cell phone data, investigators were led to a retention pond in Vernon Hills, where a resident reported a floating backpack believed to be Romero’s.

Subsequently, Romero’s Nissan Rogue was discovered submerged in the pond. Police speculate that Romero, possibly unfamiliar with the area, failed to navigate a turn and entered the water, traveling approximately 60 feet. However, her body has not yet been recovered, told ABC7 Chicago.

Surveillance footage from a fast-food restaurant, a little over a mile from the scene, captured Romero entering and leaving the establishment alone. She then drove away about 15 minutes before her cell phone’s last ping. Carpentersville police announced on Facebook that the search was temporarily paused but would resume on Tuesday.

Romero’s sister, Dulce Romero, expressed hope for her sister’s safe return, emphasizing that the vehicle retrieved from the pond contained nobody. Brissa Romero is described as 5 feet tall, weighing around 115 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a green shirt and black pants. The family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to her safe return, according to Carpentersville police, NBC Chicago reports.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Sgt. Webb with the Carpentersville Police Department at 847-551-3481 or QuadCom Dispatch at 847-428-8784.
