Mary Ziegler and Bill Henrichs, former residents of Minnesota, shared a marriage that lasted for 22 years. However, their paths diverged more than two decades ago when they decided to part ways. At the time of their divorce, they made a mutual commitment to treat each other and their children with respect, and they upheld that promise throughout the years.
Reflecting on their unique situation, Ziegler shared, “I always say that Bill never left our family, but his wife Linda joined it. I consider Linda a gift to my kids and me and to Bill, and one of the best things that ever happened to all of us.”
Unfortunately, Mr. Henrichs faced health challenges that persisted despite numerous efforts by well-meaning individuals to find a solution. Struggling with kidney failure, several people attempted to donate a kidney to him, but they were either deemed unfit due to health reasons or not a close enough match, reported National Post.
After some time had passed, his ex-wife, Mary, made the decision to undergo tests to determine if her kidney would be a compatible match. Miraculously, the tests yielded positive results. Mary later remarked, “It’s like the universe wanted me to be his life savior.”
Ziegler added lightheartedly, “One of our issues, when we were married, is I’m super-athletic and into health and fitness and wellness, and this guy wasn’t. So I was going to remind you… Aren’t you glad?”
The surgery was successful, and both individuals have recovered well. Merely three weeks after the operation, they resumed their work routines.
Ziegler expressed her unwavering commitment, stating, “I would do this anytime for my ex-husband, but what really amazes me are the people donating their kidneys to complete strangers.”
