Connecticut News Anchor Conceals Mother’s Murder, Suspect Apprehended After Months of Silence

Shawn Conlon, aged 44, has been apprehended on a second-degree murder charge in relation to the tragic death of Claudia M. Voight, the mother of Heidi Voight, an NBC Connecticut Today news anchor and former Miss America contestant.

The incident occurred on February 20, when Claudia was discovered deceased in her Windham, Vt., residence. Initially thought to be due to a medical event, her death took a grim turn as the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington determined that she had succumbed to neck compression, leading to the classification of her demise as a homicide. According to People

In a heartfelt revelation on social media in July, Heidi Voight disclosed the shocking truth surrounding her mother’s passing. She conveyed the painful secret that Claudia’s death was not natural or peaceful, but a violent act of murder that transpired in the supposed sanctuary of her own home. Expressing the enduring grief, Heidi lamented the world moving forward while her family continued to relive the tragedy of February 21.

Acknowledging the emotional toll of keeping this revelation silent, Heidi explained that their reticence aimed to shield the ongoing criminal investigation from interference during its critical early stages.

Shawn Conlon was apprehended at a Groton, Conn., hotel by the U.S. Marshals Service, Rhode Island State Police, and the Groton Police Department. The Vermont State Police, armed with an arrest warrant, revealed in a statement that Conlon had been renting a room in Ms. Voight’s home, discontinuing rent payments in late 2022 but continuing to inhabit the residence until the fateful attack that resulted in Claudia’s demise in February.

Facing charges as a fugitive in Connecticut, Conlon is currently held on a $1 million bail. He has waived extradition and is slated to return to Vermont to confront the charges. Whether Conlon has secured legal representation remains uncertain at this time.
