Brooklinn Khoury, a pro skateboarder, has bravely shared details of her first surgery after a traumatic dog attack that changed her life. In a TikTok video posted on Tuesday, the 23-year-old responded to a follower’s question about the duration of her surgery. Since November 2020, Khoury has undergone a total of seven reconstructive surgeries after her upper lip and part of her nose were torn off in a pit bull attack.
In the video, Khoury revealed, “My first surgery was 20 hours long! They had a lot to do during the procedure. They had to take skin from my arm and attach it to my lip, connect a main artery and a vein to restore sensation to my lip.”
She continued, “I was unconscious for two days, so when I woke up, I was very disoriented. I didn’t know what day it was. It was the most surreal experience.” Khoury added in the video caption, “The first thing I asked my doctor when I woke up was what he ate during those 20 hours.”
Earlier this month, Khoury shared her initial fears about her appearance after the attack, reflecting on societal beauty standards and her personal journey toward acceptance. Despite her apprehension, she emphasized the importance of embracing her new appearance, stating, “I couldn’t change what happened, I couldn’t wish things were different. I just knew I needed to learn to accept how I looked, even if I was scared of it at first” reported People Magazine.
Khoury received an outpouring of support from her followers, including her girlfriend, Chloé Lukasiak, a former cast member of Dance Moms, who affectionately commented, “My pretty girl.”
Since the incident, Khoury has been sharing her recovery journey on social media. In February, she underwent her seventh reconstructive surgery, expressing excitement as she nears the end of this lengthy process. Describing the latest surgery, Khoury explained that her doctor focused on recreating her top lip, aiming for a more aesthetic appearance. She also expressed eagerness to return to her active lifestyle, which includes activities like hiking, biking, surfing, and skating.
Looking forward, Khoury anticipates the completion of her surgeries and the resumption of her high-energy lifestyle. While one more reconstructive surgery is still planned, she expressed satisfaction with the results achieved so far.
