An elderly woman from Hamilton, New Zealand, was subjected to verbal abuse and insults by her neighbours after she asked them to turn down their music. The unpleasant incident took place in front of children and was recorded on TikTok by a local mum, Katelyn Park. The footage has since been viewed over 1.4 million times.
According to Ms Park, her family had been experiencing excessive noise from their neighbours, who would play music loudly throughout the day and night. The grandmother asked the neighbours to consider the noise levels, but her request was met with a torrent of abuse and disrespect. One neighbour even threw water on her.
The video shows a man climbing on the fence in a threatening manner while the grandmother maintains her composure and stands her ground. Even though she tried to have a reasonable conversation, the man continued to shout at her, insisting that she had “no respect.”
Ms Park’s daughter can be heard in the background of the video, unbothered by the commotion and asking for “another creaming soda.” Ms Park said that her kids have become used to the constant noise and have started to consider it normal.
The incident has taken a toll on the family, and Ms Park has considered moving to Australia to escape the noise. Despite feeling protective of her mother, Ms Park chose not to inflame the situation further. However, some of her followers praised the grandmother for standing up to her neighbours and refusing to be intimidated.
