Lemonade Media’s new 10-episode podcast series, Blind Plea, delves into the case of Deven Grey, a young black mother who claimed she killed her allegedly abusive white boyfriend in self-defense and was subsequently sent to prison by the justice system.

Hosted by Emmy award-winning journalist Liz Flock, the podcast takes listeners inside the case and explores the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Grey’s boyfriend, John Vance, on Dec. 12, 2017, in their rural mobile home in Shelby County, Alabama.

Grey claimed that Vance was a violent partner and that she had called the police on him multiple times in the past. Despite being charged with murder, Grey ultimately took a blind plea for manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Blind Plea is set to premiere on May 17 and will be available wherever podcasts are streamed.
