77-year-old woman gets married … to herself: See the pics

Dorothy “Dottie” Fideli, a 77-year-old resident of the O’Bannon Terrace Retirement Community in Goshen, Ohio, married herself in a ceremony on May 13.

Fideli, who had always wished for a big wedding, decided to make her dream come true and celebrate her love for herself. She asked Rob Geiger, the property manager of her retirement home, to perform the ceremony.

Her daughter, Donna Pennington, organized the decorations and food, including a two-tiered white cake, heart-shaped cookies, and finger sandwiches in the shape of wedding bells.

Fideli wore a beautiful white dress with sheer long sleeves with floral detailing, as well as a silver belt and a veil with an embellished headband.

The wedding turned out to be an emotional and moving experience for Fideli and her guests. During the ceremony, Fideli held a white lily as a metaphor for cultivating self-love.

She encouraged everyone to consider the importance of the “little petals inside” and to think about the love, wisdom, and hope that flow from within.

Fideli had been married once before in 1965, but never had a formal wedding. She always wished she could have a big wedding but thought it was too late for her.

After overcoming many challenges in her life, including teaching herself to read just a few years ago, Fideli is now focusing on cherishing herself and pursuing her own dreams. She is excited to be reading the Bible for the first time and understanding it as a story.
