Prosecutors have revealed harrowing details of a case involving a 23-year-old mother named Katrina and her 27-year-old boyfriend, Jose. They stand accused of subjecting Katrina’s 5-year-old daughter to severe abuse, including forcing her to put urine-soaked socks in her mouth and violently extracting them, leading to the loss of two teeth.
Tragically, the situation takes an even darker turn as the mother has recently pleaded guilty to her role in the death of her 5-year-old daughter. Prosecutors stated that she entered a guilty plea for a first-degree felony count of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury by omission, as reported by NYP.
According to court documents, the District Attorney’s Office agreed to reduce her sentence to 45 years in exchange for her guilty plea.
The investigation uncovered a horrifying pattern of abuse endured by the 5-year-old child, Mercedes, over several weeks. She suffered from extreme physical abuse, resulting in cuts, bruises, significant hair loss, and the loss of several toenails.
Both the mother and her boyfriend subjected the child to three weeks of abuse after she asked him to assist in disciplining her daughter. Allegedly, he forced the child to put dog feces in her mouth while screaming at her. The mother also recounted her boyfriend’s actions, claiming he inserted a urine-soaked sock into the girl’s mouth and then forcibly removed it, causing the loss of two teeth, as confirmed by officials.
During interviews with investigators, the mother further disclosed that her boyfriend repeatedly struck Mercedes with belts and his hands, which were adorned with rings. Her boyfriend has pleaded not guilty to the charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and is scheduled to go to trial in October.
