20-Year-Old Father in Custody for Allegedly Inflicting Critical Injuries on 2-Week-Old Son

A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of inflicting critical injuries on his 2-week-old son by reportedly throwing him against a headboard.

The incident came to light on Friday, Dec. 8, just after 1 p.m., when the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Children’s Protective Services concerning a 2-week-old infant brought to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital by the mother for a possible eye infection.

Upon further examination, medical professionals noted additional injuries, including a skull fracture, mouth injuries, and bruising on the arms and legs. The baby was subsequently admitted to the hospital, where physicians determined that the injuries were “non-accidental and a result of recent trauma.”

Detectives from the sheriff’s office engaged with the baby’s parents and discovered that the injuries had occurred in their home. This led to the issuance and execution of a search warrant.

According to the sheriff’s office, the child’s father, Dezmond Wallace, informed detectives that he caused the injuries on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 6. Wallace allegedly disclosed that he threw his infant son against the headboard of a bed, as reported by WCPO-TV.

Dezmond Wallace has been booked into the Clermont County Jail on charges of second-degree endangering children and second-degree felonious assault. He appeared in court on Monday, Dec. 11, where his bond was set at $1 million.

Pending further investigation, the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office may consider filing additional charges. The sheriff’s office has not disclosed the current condition of the victim.
