On June 16, law enforcement responded to a shooting incident at a trailer home in Greeley, as reported by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Lily Silva-Lopez, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
According to officials, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, Jovanni Sirio-Cardona, allegedly approached the residence unannounced and forcibly entered through a bedroom window, proceeding to shoot the victim multiple times.
Silva-Lopez reportedly instructed her brother to flee as Sirio-Cardona entered the home, as per KUSA-TV. The brother attempted to call 911 but was unable to connect the call. While he was making the attempt, Sirio-Cardona allegedly entered the residence and fatally shot the victim.
Subsequently, Sirio-Cardona encountered the brother and seized his phone to prevent him from contacting emergency services. He then fled the scene, taking the brother’s phone with him, according to KUSA-TV.
Police later arrived at Sirio-Cardona’s residence, where his grandmother answered the door. When questioned about the situation, Sirio-Cardona reportedly admitted that he had done what he had to do and shot someone, as reported by KUSA-TV.
Authorities revealed that Sirio-Cardona and the victim had been in a relationship for approximately six months, but Silva-Lopez had attempted to end the relationship four weeks before the fatal shooting.
During interviews with the victim’s mother, she recounted an incident where Sirio-Cardona allegedly placed a gun barrel in Silva-Lopez’s mouth and compelled her to express love for him, indicating previous episodes of violence. Additionally, on June 10, police had responded to a call from Silva-Lopez’s residence after Sirio-Cardona purportedly assaulted her, striking her face and injuring her arm, as per KUSA-TV.
Surveillance footage from June 13 and June 14 allegedly captured Sirio-Cardona outside his ex-girlfriend’s home, further indicating his involvement in the events leading to the shooting, according to officials.
Sirio-Cardona will face charges as an adult, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and possession of a handgun by a juvenile, as announced by authorities. His bond has been set at $2 million, and he is scheduled to appear in court on August 3.
