A disturbing incident in St. Charles, Missouri, has led to a police investigation involving a family after an 11-year-old girl gave birth to a baby in the bathtub of her home.
The grandmother of the baby, Lesbia Cante, and her husband, Francisco Javier Gonzalez-Lopez, initially claimed that a stranger had left the newborn on their front porch. However, investigators quickly unraveled the truth.
On February 11, Cante and Gonzalez-Lopez rushed the newborn to St. Joseph Hospital with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached. Doctors grew concerned as the baby’s body temperature was as low as 90 degrees.
Over the next two days, the couple continued to deny knowledge of how the baby arrived or who the parents were. During a follow-up interview with the police, Gonzalez-Lopez finally confessed that the baby had been born in their home’s bathtub, reported NBC News.
Shockingly, he revealed that the 11-year-old girl was actually Cante’s daughter, and the baby’s father was Gonzalez-Lopez’s 17-year-old son, Norvin Leonidas Lopez-Cante. It remains unclear whether the two teenagers are siblings or half-siblings.
Gonzalez-Lopez claimed he was unaware of the girl’s pregnancy and that his son was raping her until she gave birth in the bathtub. The 17-year-old boy now faces charges of first-degree statutory rape, statutory sodomy, and incest. His bail is set at $25,000.
Gonzalez-Lopez himself was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and has a bail set at $10,000. It was revealed that he entered the country illegally and was previously deported.
Additionally, the 11-year-old girl’s mother, Lesbia Cante, was charged with failing to provide medical care to her daughter after she gave birth. This tragic and deeply disturbing incident has left the community shocked and has led to legal consequences for the family members involved.
